Be part of the largest multi-sport non-profit organization in the country. Members are able to participate in over 30 sports at local, regional, and national events and receive up to $50,000 in sports accident insurance while at AAU licensed events with extended (AB) coverage available for protection while playing in non-AAU events.
Registering to participate in the AAU is a quick and easy process.
AAU membership years run from September 1st through August 31st. Memberships expire on August 31st each year, regardless of when during the year it was purchased. Multi-year membership options are available during the application process.
Below you will find important information you need to know about the membership application process and be able to submit your application.
You can file for either an athlete or non-athlete membership. Athletes are those that play the sport and non-athletes are everyone else including coaches, officials, chaperones, or other staff.
We offer both youth and adult programs. Select the Youth program if your activities involve youth athletes. Select the Adult program if your activities involve adult athletes.
Your AAU Membership comes with the benefit of providing you with up to $50,000 in sports accident insurance while participating in AAU licensed events.
If you plan on participating in events that are not AAU licensed events, you will need Extended (AB) Coverage in order to extend your insurance coverage to those events.
The AAU takes safety for all of our members and volunteers very seriously. It is for this reason that ALL adult members must undergo a background check prior to being allowed to participate in an event. We also have a strong Concussion Policy and support the CDC's Heads Up program and encourage all participants to do so as well and take the available training courses.
All adult members are required to undergo a background check. This is done automatically as part of your application process. It is because of this requirement that all adults MUST file their own membership application. Your membership will not be approved until the background check is completed. This process can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks. Your membership benefits will not become active until your membership is approved.
Youth athletes do not need a background check performed, therefore, youth memberships are approved instantly and become active with full benefits as soon as payment is received.
If you're already a member of an AAU club, you can select that club during the application process or select it at a later date. So, don't worry if you don't know what club you will be a part of when filling out your application.
If you plan on starting an AAU club, you will need to have a non-athlete membership first. Once your membership is approved and you receive your membership number, you'll be able to file your application to start the club.
