Join AAU

Clubs are able to participate in events at the local, regional and national levels, apply to host AAU licensed events, request practice and training insurance certificates, become a 501(c)3 organization under AAU's group exemption, vote at appropriate District meetings, and are protected by a multi-million dollar insurance policy including liability and sports accident coverage.

There are 3 different club levels so you can choose the one that best fits your club's needs.

AAU membership years run from September 1st through August 31st. Club memberships expire on August 31st each year, regardless of when during the year it was purchased. Multi-year club membership options are available during the application process.

Things you need to know

Starting a Club

In order to start an AAU club, you will need to have a non-athlete membership first. Once your membership is approved and you receive your membership number, you'll be able to file your application to start the club. Don't have a non-athlete membership? Get started...

Club Levels

There are 3 club levels to choose from. Level 1 is for clubs that wish to participate in AAU events but not host / license an event. Level 2 expands upon Level 1 and is for clubs that wish to host / license events. Level 3 expands upon Level 2 and is for clubs that want 501(c)3 non-profit status under AAU's group exemption.

Club Contacts

All contacts for your club must also have their own non-athlete membership in order to be listed and have access to manage the club.

Program Types / Age Groups

We offer both youth and adult programs. Select the Youth program if your activities involve youth athletes. Select the Adult program if your activities involve adult athletes. Select Both if you plan on having both youth and adult athletes in your club.

Protection - Insurance Coverage

Your Club Membership comes with the benefit of providing your club with protection through a multi-million dollar sports accident and liability insurance policy while participating in AAU licensed events.

Safety

The AAU takes safety for all of our members and volunteers very seriously. It is for this reason that ALL adult members must undergo a background check prior to being allowed to participate in an event. We also have a strong Concussion Policy and embrace the CDC's Heads Up program and encourage all of our coaches and other non-athletes to do so as well and take the available training courses.

The AAU

The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by over 670,000 participants and over 100,000 volunteers.
